Adolescent and Teen Counseling

It's well known that the teenage years are a challenging limbo between childhood and adulthood- a time when responsibilities and freedoms can feel out-of-balance. What's relatively new, however, is the growing body of research explaining how developmental changes in the adolescent brain affect mood and decision-making. For most teens, these changes will result in periodic problems with impulsivity, decision-making, risk-taking, inattention, sleep disturbance and moodiness. The majority of difficult adolescent behavior can be addressed with an understanding that these basic challenges are experienced by all families with adolescents and that both parents and teens need compassionate, non-judgmental intervention to get back on track.

At Liberty Therapy, we are committed to building a trusting relationship with each teen we serve. With this essential base in place, we can work with the teen on building effective solutions that pull on the teen’s strengths and unique point of view. Often, long-term positive change comes when parents are invited, by the teen, to participate in parts of these sessions.
